The collection owes its name to a commission for Maharani Sethu Lakshmi Bayi, who from 1924–1931 was regent of the southern Indian kingdom of Travancore in the present-day Indian state of Kerala. Not only Maharani but other Moser crystal was also ordered by the queen’s successor, the Maharaja of Travancore.
