The engraved and gilded glass collection known as Paula, first presented in 1902 and later named after Leo Moser’s wife, is one of the greatest jewels to be created by the Moser glassblowers, cutters, engravers and painters. The pattern dates from the time when floral motifs were gaining popularity, influenced by French and Belgian Art Nouveau. The creators draw major inspiration from the World’s Fairs in Brussels (1897) and Paris (1900). The characteristic shape of the glass is inspired by the classic beauty of the rose. The flower of the bowl grows organically from the stem, set in the subtly- decorated base. An incredibly fine engraving of rose flowers on the thin-walled bowl is complemented under the upper rim and on the base by a gilded engraving of intertwined tendrils with thorns and leaves. Paula has a unique magic, not only in the pure crystal version but in the version with rose flashing.

Mouth-blown, hand-cut and hand polished to a high gloss. The drinking set Mozart can be described as: “The Beauty is in Simplicity”. The Classical form with engraved pearl rim corresponds to Tauschek’s artistic style, in which he often drew inspiration from the art of Rococo and Classicism. Each glass is splendidly balanced, both to look at and when raised for a toast. Despite its seeming simplicity, the form is very difficult to produce.

Maharani is characterised by the elegant shape of the cup, richly decorated with classicist flowers and drapery, which progresses fluidly to the stem with its six-sided cut. The fine lace of the engraved floral motifs is complemented by hand-painted gold lines and a pearl-cut finish.
Maharani is the traditional title for the wife of the maharaja. The collection owes its name to a commission for Maharani Sethu Lakshmi Bayi, who from 1924–1931 was regent of the southern Indian kingdom of Travancore in the present-day Indian state of Kerala. Not only Maharani but other Moser crystal was also ordered by the queen’s successor, the Maharaja of Travancore.
